Favorite Fall Memory & Halloween
Okay. So I fell behind on the journaling for 5 minutes and never completed last weeks which was to write about my favorite fall memory. My favorite fall memory is from earlier this month when David proposed. Okay so it's not really fall here in FL but it is a fall month. :) We went over to Crescent Beach to watch the sunrise and he proposed on the beach. It was freezing (as you can see from the pictures I posted on an earlier post). It was in the upper 50's to low 60's.
This week's challenge is to write about Halloween. As a child, Halloween was just a time to get to go around the neighborhood and get candy. :) I remember even going Trick-o-Treating a couple years in college with some of my friends. The neighbors expected the college kids to come around and didn't mind it as long as we were dressed up. I don't have kids now but when David and I do have kids we will not allow our children to participate in Halloween.
My relationship with the Lord has grown a lot since I graduated from college and it wouldn't be honoring to Him to go and celebrate or even teach my children to celebrate a "holiday" that represents beliefs that we are told to stay away from.
Ending note: I got a call from the bridal store. My dress has arrived!! The designer happened to have my size hanging in the warehouse and was able to ship it immediately! I may go down today to try it on. Here's a link to my dress. If you click on the navy blue color it will change the colored section to navy blue and you'll see what it looks like. Can't tell that I'm excited. :)
I think I'm going to scrapbook tonight. I still have a scrapping itch. I have a whole bunch to catch up on.
Have a great evening all!
Love to all,
Jenn

Thanks for sharing your journaling! I respect your decision not to celebrate Halloween. My husband and I have debated the whole thing too. I actually have a link to a really interesting article on the subject at my blog. You'll have to scroll down a bit, but I think it's titled "Chistians and Halloween." Just in case you are interested!
By the way, congrats on your recent engagement! Your dress is beautiful!
I totally respect your decision on the no Halloween thing. I really can't stand Halloween and what society has made it represent.
Your dress is beautiful!! I bet you're gonna be just gorgeous in it!!
I do respect your decision about the Halloween issue. My problem with the Christian community on this issue lies with those who feel that their conviction should be everyone's conviction and do not agree to disagree with our decision.
My dh and I debated the whole Halloween thing ourselves when kids came into the picture. We sought some wise counsel and talked to our pastor about it. He told us that no day belonged to Satan - that God is God 24/7/365 and that he did not believe there was anything dishonoring about allowing our children to dress up and play pretend on that night more than any other. I thought that was a good point.
We do not dress in scary or occult costumes and we do not go door to door - we choose positive characters and get candy at church. Our church uses it as an outreach tool and it is all games and innocent fun - just the kind of fun I remember as a kid :) I think it is a great way to reclaim for Christ a night that has for too long been handed over to the enemy.
